BACKGROUND

The operation started on June 23, 1939 as Tobacco Wrapper Station by the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) under the leadership of Mr. Herminio Espino ( 1939 – Dec. 1941). Its operation was disrupted and went to temporary closure due to World War II.

Mr. Mariano Gutierrez became the next superintendent after the war (1947 -1948). The station was renamed Kidapawan Experiment Station and subsequently as Kidapawan Seed Farm- a pioneer in nursery operation in this part of the region that paved the way to accelerated plantings of fruit crops in the locality and subsequently earning the name “ City of Fruits”. Primary commodities include fruit crops, banana, rubber, coffee, and cut-flowers, as well as conduct of R and D on these commodities.

With the implementation and operation of the DA Administrative Orders 6 and 19 series of 1991, the station became one of the R and D satellite stations of CEMIARC and is now named the Central Mindanao Integrated Agricultural Research Center (DA-CEMIARC) for Upland Plain zonefied according to development zones.

The satellite station is tasked to conduct basic functions of research, germplasm collection and maintenance, production and distribution of high quality planting materials, and training/technical assistance for a dynamic agricultural sector of the region.
