DA-CEMIARC FOR UPLAND ROLLING
Aroman, Carmen, Cotabato

BRIEF HISTORY

In 1939, the Honorable Secretary of Agriculture and Commerce of the Commonwealth of the Philippines authorized Director Hilarion Silayan of the Bureau of Plant Industry to immediately acquire an appropriate area of land for the government in this part of the underdeveloped agricultural land of Cotabato and to establish thereon an Experimental Station. The purpose was to escalate rapid agricultural development in the region by demonstrating to the natives as well to local settlers and farmers, better farming methods and techniques, by raising productive varieties of local farm crops by introducing and acclimatizing selected imported planting materials by conducting researches along agricultural lines, and lastly by disseminating  useful results derived to neighboring farmers and the region as a whole.

In the later part of 1941, World War II broke out, and all activities were stopped with the abandonment of the station. In late March of 1946, the Mindanao Central Experiment Station was reopened with Mr. Eliseo Carandang Sr., as the station superintendent. On January 2, 1957, with Reorganization Plan No. 53-A the station’s name was changed to Aroman Experiment Station in compliance with Memorandum 112S, 1957.
The second disruption of the station was in the early part of 1973 brought about by manmade unrest. All improvements, machineries, equipment, infrastructures, and buildings were looted and burned by the rebels.

After its reopening in January 3, 1975, it was renamed to Aroman Seed Farm. Reconstruction of offices, warehouses, and employees’ quarters were materialized, and until today still in use by the station. With the implementation of AO Nos 6 and 19 series of 1991, the station was renamed CEMIARC for Upland Rolling.
